Only after I'd been nominated.

Where were you when you were told (that you'd won the nomination)?
In my kitchen.... doing the dishes and making dinner while hoovering and
ignoring the kids as I got ready to go to work...

I did..but then they forgot to deliver it...

D: quando si è accorto per la prima volta che recitare era la cosa alla quale era destinato?
R: Non sono sicuro di esserci “destinato”…
È stato durante il mio ultimo anno di scuola e stavo per fare perizie di quantità a Napier, a Edimburgo…non sapevo neppure cosa fosse, ma era un corso di laurea, e mia madre era contenta…un giorno, qualcuno (un angelo) venne a chiedere in giro se qualcuno era interessato ad iscriversi alla scuola estiva del National Youth Theatre a Londra. Fui l’unica persona in tutta la scuola a dire di sì…feci il peggior provino mai visto, ma riuscii ad entrare lo stesso, dato che c’erano solo tre candidati dalla Scozia, e una era una ragazza con indosso un tutù che portava un enorme hula hoop…e questo fu l’inizio.
La mia vita cambiò in tre settimane. Tornavo in Scozia, resistevo un mese a fare perizie di quantità – che suppongo sia contare quanti mattoni etc. ti servono per costruire qualsiasi cosa – e iniziavo a fare drammi amatoriali con lo Strathclyde Theatre Group…poi, dopo molte fortunate produzioni con loro, feci un provino e ottenni un posto alla Royal Scottish Academy of Music…ma mi fu chiesto di andarmene dopo un anno e mezzo…quindi sono tornato all’STG. Tre frustranti anni se ne andarono via e allora ottenni il mio primo lavoro professionale come sostituto dell’assistente del direttore di scena al Citizens Theatre, e recitavo come orso polare nella recita di Natale…un posto meraviglioso dove lavorare, poi mi sono state offerte parti più lunghe e migliori…ed eccomi qua!
D: Può parlarci di una o più persone che l’hanno influenzata maggiormente per quel che riguarda la recitazione e come queste persone l’hanno aiutata a diventare l’attore che è oggi?
R: Susan Triesman…Strathclyde Theatre Group, un posto assolutamente fantastico e la ragione per cui sono diventato attore. Il direttore del Citizens, Giles Havergal, Philip Prose e Robert David McDonald…mi hanno insegnato, ispirato e hanno creduto in me.
D: Visto che in parte è Scozzese, ha un kilt, lo indossa mai e se sì lo fa “regimental”?
R: non ne ho
D: quale domanda non le è mai stata posta durante le interviste e avrebbe voluto invece che le fosse fatta, e quale sarebbe stata la risposta a questa domanda?
R: questa…
Queste domande sono state inizialmente inviate per email a Henry dal precedente webmaster e in seguito postate dallo stesso sulla ormai defunta message board, sulla quale ottennero risposta nel thread “Domande per HIC”.
